Hurricane Irene Recap and Lots of random pictures.

Thursday, I went with Tex to stock his house for the hurricane.  We ran errands for his dad then had dinner there.  Tex has an amazing garden at his house.  He is able to grow anything, while plants tend to wither in my mere presence.  I can kill any plant, just give me a week.  It's a little pitiful, but whatever, I make a great Georgia Tea!!  I took a couple of pictures of the tomatoes we had on our burgers.  These were some of the very best tomatoes I've ever tasted...and I would know, as I am a connoisseur of tomatoes.  I LOVE them!!!

Yellow & green tomatoes

Yellow & green tomatoes, and yes, they're fully ripe!
Those green tomatoes are fully ripe and might just be the best thing I've ever put in my mouth.  So juicy and ripe, they taste like sunshine and goodness!

I know everyone was watching the news last weekend as Hurricane Irene made her way up the Eastern seaboard.  We took a lot of precautions, such as taping our front window, removing and storing patio furniture and putting Marc's new BBQ grill IN the guest bedroom and tying the smoker to a tree...

Marc and I evacuated our house because we live about 4 blocks from the Great South Bay.  We stayed at his sister, Jennifer's house.  She and her husband, Jay, had a brand new air-bed they let us use for our 3 night stay at their house.  We're very grateful for our friends here, many of whom offered us rooms in their homes.  Jennifer & Jay happen to live closest to us, so it was the most convenient place for us to stay.

I took pictures of the entire interior and exterior of our house for insurance purposes, loaded up the car, stopped by the liquor store and headed to Jen &Jay's on Friday evening.  I had gone into work for the night, but Marc called me and said we would have to evacuate, so one of my co-workers offered to close for me and the MP let me go home to secure our belongings.

Saturday, I returned to our house in the morning to pick up a few things and double check a couple of security things.  Irene wasn't to hit New York until very late Saturday night.  I went back to Jen & Jay's and we began the Hurricane Party.  We had a blast with some of their friends and Marc got stuck at work for about 17 hours.  He missed a lot of the party, but at least he made it home before the hurricane made it impossible to drive.

Hurricane glasses!

The Bar

More of the bar...The important stuff anyway!

Hurricane cake.  It was tasty!  "GO AWAY IRENE!"

After playing "31" and before we started playing Quarters

My sister-in-law, Jennifer
We came back to our house on Monday.  We weren't able to get to the house on Sunday because there was a tree down in the street that is the only entrance to our neighborhood.  So yesterday we got to come home and were thrilled to find out that we had absolutely no damage here whatsoever.  Thank God.  I really didn't want to have to deal with flooding and shattered windows.  The storm was more like a very windy rainstorm.  At Jen & Jay's house we lost power when a tree fell and took out the power lines.  Thankfully, Jay has a generator and we were able to have power in certain places in the house.

So now, I have experienced earthquakes, tornadoes and a hurricane.  I think a volcano eruption and tsunami are the only two I am missing, and I have to say I can totally do without them too!

I downloaded some new music the other day while I was playing on I-Tunes.  That is a dangerous little store.  I LOVE music and it looks so harmless to just click "buy" once you hear a clip of the song...a few months ago, I harmlessly clicked  bought my way to over $300 worth of music in one sitting.  You just don't realize how fast it adds up! I try to limit it to about 15 songs at a time now.   AH! The point...I was going to say before that little sidetrack that I bought some music that I am really loving.  I'm gonna list for you the songs I bought and the artists who sing them.  Check them out, especially if you like Country music.  I LOVE it and don't have a Country station on the radio here in NY.  BOOO!!

Pistol Annies is a side project by Country Artist Miranda Lambert and 2 other lovely ladies.  I am really liking what they're doing so far!

1) Boys from the South - Pistol Annies
2) Hell on Heels - Pistol Annies
3) Bad Example - Pistol Annies
4) Gunpowder & Lead - Miranda Lambert
5) White Liar - Miranda Lambert

7) I Don't Care - Darius Rucker feat. Brad Paisley

10) I Can't Love You Back - Easton Corbin
11) Roll With It - Easton Corbin

13) Don't Get Me Started - Rhett Akins
14) Barefoot Bluejean Night - Jake Owen
15) If I Die Young - The Band Perry

Hope y'all are having a good week!
Cheers,
Kelli

  1. So glad to hear you all had no damage at home! And, you really need to check out MOG.com for all your music downloads. I pay just $10 a month for all the music I want to listen to. I'm liking the Pistol Annies too! (I checked them out just the other day on MOG) :)
